Sam the Butcher

Moisst favorites Sam the Butcher. I think we put these guys in just about every single issue we did. This is an early one, back when they actually still played some ska. Alas, Sam the Butcher is no more. The guys went on to bigger and better things. Not too sure where everyone else is since Redfield broke up, but you can still catch Dennis's earsplitting vocals with his new band, The Revenge. - NV

Sam the Butcher
Interview By Kira And Laura Buussshhh At The Hollywood Alley

The night of this interview the bands opening for SAM THE BUTCHER were really good and got the energy going for THE BUTCHER. This was the first time i had seen them without their old bassist but the new one definitely added a different but cool vibe to the show. After one too many drinks, Kira and Laura made for the parking lot with the band and started drilling them with questions.

MOISST: First of all, who's in the band now and who does what?

STB: Well we're all original members except for Alfie. We had to get rid of our old bassist (Every one laughing about it). (Alfie) Now I'm waiting for the knife in the back.

MOISST: How long have you guys been playing together?

STB: It's going on two and a half years now.

MOISST: What's the hippest spot you guys have played and would recommend for some one to check out.

STB: Yuma.

MOISST: Are you planning on touring this summer

STB:Yeah, were planning on touring Albania this summer and possibly the middle east.

MOISST: What actually got you guys together as a band? Was it just out of boredom or what?

STB: We're all friends. We all knew one another.

MOISST: What's up with the rumors that you're a racist band?

STB: Where the hell did you hear that shit? (Alfie) Christ, I'm Mexican, so if this is a racist band I'm definitely missing something. That rumor is bullshit. Two of the members in the band are Mexican and my girlfriend is oriental.

MOISST:What music have you guy's put out so far?

STB:Nothing so far, any donations to help get our music out can be sent to 1955 N. Blackstone Dr. in Chandler AZ.

MOISST: What kind of influences do you find running in the band?

STB:Motorhead and the Reverend Horton Heat.

MOISST: On something totally different What's your most explicit fantasies so people reading this can rub along?

STB: Well lets see, I really can't say that one. Oh, o.k. I'd have to go with a gallon of miracle whip. Something along those lines.

MOISST: What kind of labels are you guys shopping around?

STB:Any type of indy. If there's any true ones that still exist.

MOISST:Any labels specifically you've been hitting up?

STB: Besides Maverick, I guess Mowtown, and Death Row. Hopefully we'll get something soon. People keep asking when and basically we don't know. It could be two weeks, two months, or two years. We don't know. When it comes out it will come out.

MOISST: I know you 've gone in the studio and you have a tape, don't you?

STB:Yeah, we just finished remastering it and it's done. We just haven't found a label for it yet. We're going to be on a compilation out of Washington with NOFX and a few other bands.

MOISST: I know you had to get a new bass player, what was behind that?

STB: (All in Unison) BECAUSE HE KNOCKED UP HIS GIRLFRIEND!!!!!!!!!

MOISST: Since this was way past due, a lot has been going on with this band and that ain't no fuckin mamba jamba........

STB: We ain't no stagnent local swag that is going to be waisted for nottin. Look out for the new shiiiiitttttt!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Since this interview was conducted SAM THE BUTCHER has gone through another change, we have a new drummer, Chad (formerly of safehouse) but in joining the band he has lost his little box of integrity. The band has also signed with a label out of Florida, FAR OUT RECORDS, When asked about what they thought about their label, they replied "It's a great label,, they replied "It's a great label, the owner Tim is the greatest......especially for for putting up with our shit... FAR OUT is definatly a label any band could be happy with." SAM THE BUTCHER has released a self titeled tape and are releasing a 7" and a CD on FAR OUT RECORDS , they also have a song on MISFITS OF SKA II compilation. The new C.D will be called SHELTERED on FAROUT. We will have a song on the DILL RECORDS compilation "DILLINQUENTS" Buy it all or loose out and suck ass.....suck ass fish.............
